Bethel Wood Bank
I volunteer with the Bethel Wood Bank, a volunteer-powered nonprofit that provides free firewood to households facing heat insecurity in Bethel and the surrounding Maine communities.
In rural Maine a lot of homes heat with wood, and a winter’s supply isn’t always affordable. The wood bank collects donated trees, storm cleanup and logs from local landowners. Volunteers cut, split and stack it on work days, and the firewood goes out at no cost, with delivery for neighbors who can’t haul it themselves.
How to help
- Volunteer. Chainsaw operators, splitters, stackers and drivers. No experience needed; training and safety guidance are provided. Sign up
- Donate wood. Cut and split firewood, tree-length logs, or downed trees by arrangement. Donate firewood or logs
- Donate funds. Money keeps the equipment running and pays for fuel and safety gear. Make a donation
